8th Annual

Virginia Bike Walk Conference

Creating Walkable Communities...One Step at a Time

Lynchburg, VA

General Conference

April 30 - May 1

Technical Workshops

May 2 & 3

At the 8th Annual Virginia Bike Walk Conference, come together to learn and discuss ways of developing "best practices" Virginia can use to promote safety for all street users, particularly the most vulnerable--pedestrians.

On Sunday evening and Monday, the conference will offer general sessions, breakout sessions and a chance to discover our host city, Lynchburg.  The general sessions and the breakout sessions will focus on what is being done and what can be done to make Virginia communities safer and more accessible from a pedestrian's standpoint.

The conference keynote speaker will be Charlie Zegeer, director of the Pedestrian Bicycle Information Center, and an internationally recognized expert in highway safety.  He will provide us with a glimpse of what is being done around the world to make the streets safer for all.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, technical workshops will take participants deeper into issue areas.  Charlie Zegeer will team up with Michael Ronkin, Oregon's bike/ped coordinator, to lead the two-day workshop, Designing for Pedestrian Safety.  Alia Anderson, executive director for ACCT and a nationally-certified Safe Routes to School trainer, will lead a one-day workshop on Safe Routes to School.  For more information on both of these workshops, be sure to visit the Technical Workshops page.
