Virginia Bike Walk Conference

Technical Workshops

Lynchburg, VA

April 30 - May 3, 2006

Designing for Pedestrian Safety -- Charlie Zegeer and Michael Ronkin.  In this two-day workshop, participants will learn of effective engineering countermeasures that improve pedestrian safety. Beyond describing these features, the instructors will present information on human factors, so you will know why they work, and how to use them correctly. A field trip to two sites with pedestrian safety problems, followed up with a hands-on problem solving mini-charrette will allow everyone to actively apply these techniques in real-world situations.  Workshop will be on Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3.  Cost to attend the workshop only is $110.  Cost to attend the workshop and the conference is $195.

Safe Routes to School in Lynchburg -- Alia Anderson.  At this one-day conference parents, teachers, planners, police officers, and engineers from Lynchburg will come together to discuss ways to implement the national initiative, Safe Routes to School, in their community.  While the focus will be on Lynchburg schools, the workshop is open to anyone desiring to learn more details on how to get a SR2S program started in their community. Workshop will be on Tuesday, May 2.  Cost to attend the workshop is $75.  Cost to attend the workshop and the conference is $160.
