Look Who's Biking

Harrison Music at at 8980 Quioccasin Rd, in Quioccasin Station Shopping. Eric plans to ride to work and is encouraging employees to do the same. "We're thinking of buying lunch for all who ride to work," he said.

Russ Baxter, deputy director, reports that the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will promote Bike-to-Work day to employees and will hold a drawing for bike-related goodies for those who participate.

Events!

Berryville

Join in the Third Annual Rich Rau Memorial Bicycle Ride and Pancake Breakfast in beautiful Clarke County,Virginia . The Tour is a self-paced ride for recreational and serious cyclists. Choose either a 15, 30, or 50 mile course. SAG support with two rest stops provided. All funds from this event will be used for safety programs sponsored by the Town of Berryville and the Berryville Police Department.

Mathews

Celebrate the arrival of spring at the Tour de Chesapeake, a bike ride through scenic and flat Mathews County backroads along the Chesapeake Bay. This tour is perfect as a family’s first biking adventure or a relaxed experience for the intermediate rider. The experienced veteran can use the day as a season warm-up. Cyclists can choose tours of 17, 40, 60 and 80 miles in length.

Charlottesville

The Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation is coordinating a series of community events, May 12 -18th, to celebrate Bike Week. Check out the schedule of events online and call ACCT at (434) 295-6554 to get involved!

Harrisonburg

John and Cindy Reeves are Family Members of BikeWalk Virginia and Individual Partners in the Healthy Community Council. They report that Bike-to-Work Week, May 12-16, will be sponsored by the Green Team of the Healthy Community Council. (Harrisonburg Bike-to-Work-Week flyer - .pdf file)

Norfolk

Members of the provisional BikeWalk Norfolk chapter will be standing on busy corners around the city to hand out coupons to Bike-to-Work riders for cups of coffee and other goodies. They will also be handing out membership forms and hope to recruit lots of new members. To get involved, call Wes Cheney at 757-676-0121.

Roanoke

The Roanoke chapter of BikeWalk Virginia, the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, and RIDE Solutions, a Sustaining Partner of BikeWalk Virginia, are working together on bike events in May.

RIDE Solutions is organizing the annual Clean Commute Day event and pledge, with special emphasis on Bike-to-Work Day routes on May 16. You can get information about Clean Commute Day, the Pledge, and the Bike to Work Routes from www.ridesolutions.org/cleancommute.

Williamsburg

The City of Williamsburg is promoting Bike-to-Work Day as a "Roll or Stroll" day when everyone can strive to reduce carbon emissions by using any means to get to work other than as a single occupant in a motor vehicle. Information is online and includes free Williamsburg Area Transit bus vouchers. Active Williamsburg Alliance, a chapter of BikeWalk Virginia, will host an Energy Station.
