Creating a Chapter

If your group shares our vision of a more active, safe, clean, and healthy Virginia and wants to share the many benefits of walking, biking, hiking, paddling, and trail riding with others in your area through education and advocacy, contact us about organizing as a BikeWalk Virginia chapter.

Since BikeWalk Virginia has established a group exemption with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), all BikeWalk Virginia chapters fall under our non-profit charity status and do not need to obtain their own 501(c)(3) status.

The process for becoming a BikeWalk Virginia chapter is easy.

• Identify officers for your proposed chapter (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer).
• Submit the "Petition to Become a Chapter" to the BikeWalk Virginia Board of Directors.
• Approve the Chapter By-laws.
• Apply for an IRS Employee Identification Number (EIN) by phone, online or mail using form SS-4.
