Governor's Conference on

Greenways, Blueways & Trails

Omni Hotel, Richmond,VA

This conference builds on past Virginia greenways conferences as well as BikeWalk Virginia's annual conferences.  The focus this year is on how greenways, blueways and trails are an integral part of "active" communities. 

The conference offers:

  • sessions and mobile workshops on planning and design, building capacity, construction and maintenance, marketing and promotion and health benefits of greenways, blueways and trails.
  • an exhibit area for commercial services and products as well as services offered by government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
  • opportunities to network with colleagues and new partners.
  • excursions on both land and water with local outdoor clubs on Sunday.
  • a welcome reception with exhibitors on Sunday night.
  • a special dinner event hosted by the National Park Service's Civil War Visitor Center at historic Tredegar Iron Works.

 

Featured Speakers:

  • Charles Flink of Greenways Incorporated, is a nationally-recognized authority on the planning, design and implementation of greenway and trail systems and facilities.
  • Herbert Dreiseitl, a landscape architect considered among the world's elite planners of urban watersheds.
  • Anne Spirn, MIT professor and noted speaker on designing and building communities that are viable and healthy.
  • Marla Hollander, director of Active Living Leadership and educator for healthy community design.

Fee:  Registration for the conference is $150.  If you're unable to attend the entire conference, there is a daily registration fee.  For more information on conference registration, visit the registration page

Who Should Attend:  Land and water trail users and advocates, community decision makers, greenway developers and managers, planners, bicycle and pedestrian advocates, and community health advocates.  Attendees will be awarded 1.6 continuing education units (CEUs) from Virginia Tech with a full paid registration.

The Mayor's Walk and Roll Richmond, an event for the entire Richmond Metropolitan community, is being planned for April 30, 2005.

Technical Workshops will be held on May 4, 2005.  The technical workshops require an additional fee of $40 for conference attendees or $75 if you want to register for a workshop only.
