Your membership helps because:

BikeWalk Virginia is committed to raising awareness of opportunities associated with non-motorized transportation (including bicycling, walking, hiking, paddling, horseback riding) for recreation, transportation, and health.
  • We work with public and private organizations, state agencies, municipalities and civic groups to promote change in the way we think, travel, and plan our communities.
  • We are advocates, supporting local and national initiatives to provide safe walking/riding routes for children such as Safe Routes to School and National Walk to School Day each October, and Healthy Pathways, a program to promote regular exercise for Virginians of all ages and abilities.
  • We host annual events, such as Bike Virginia, recognized as one of the Top Ten Rides in America by Bicycling Magazine and Tour de Chesapeake in Mathews County.
  • We promote bicycle safety, hosting bike rodeos at local schools; offering Bike Smart Virginia certification workshops and training to teachers, health coordinators and other organizations.
  • We host the Annual BikeWalk Conference, Virginia's only summit exclusively devoted to providing a forum for legislators, planners, educators and advocates on key issues critical to pedestrians and cyclists and other users of non-motorized transportation.
  • We support coalitions to plan and build more bike-pedestrian friendly projects and amenities, such as trails, bikepaths and other accommodations, including the Virginia Outdoor Plan.
  • We are your voice in Richmond to advance non-motorized transportation as part of an overall solution for the pressing issues of our time, including comprehensive planning, growth, community wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, transportation congestion, and climate change.

Since 2000, BikeWalk Virginia has been working to educate Virginians about the benefits of biking and walking and other forms of non-motorized transportation. In Spring 2004, the Virginia Trails Association joined us, broadening our mission to include promoting trails and assisting on and off road bicycle riders, walkers and hikers, kayakers and canoeists, and equestrians.

Your membership will help create:
