Programs

Ongoing Programs of Bike Virginia

Bike Virginia conducts ongoing programs to support improving the state of biking and walking across the state. On any given day you’ll find us working on these initiatives in addition to other unique projects.

Share the Road Campaign

Share the Road

Maybe you like to bike for recreation or to go to the corner store, or ride to your college classes; your transportation needs and preferences are as unique as you are. We believe that everyone has the right to be safe on the roadways whether on foot, on a bike, or in a car.  We spread the word about Share the Road through online and social media sites by providing tips for all roadway users and ways to protect yourself from injury or death while you do the things you like and want to do. We support Virginia’s Cyclist and Pedestrian Awareness Week as part this ongoing campaign. Visit http://resources.bikewalkvirginia.org/ to see our program website. You can learn more about Cyclist and Pedestrian Awareness Week here…

Bike Smart Virginia

Bike Smart Virginia is a program designed for K-12 educators who want to add bike content to their curricula. We partner with Virginia Department of Health, Virginia DMV, Virginia Department of Education and local school systems to offer this program. In 2010 we supported 6 regional 12-hour, hands on workshops and educated over 50 teacher on safe cycling.  To learn more and request a regional training in your community read more here…

Sunrise Mini-Grant Program

As part of our mission we help communities create better support for biking and foot travel. Each year beginning in 2011 we will grant mini-grant funds to community initiatives in the locale our Bike Virginia Tour is visiting. In 2011 the tour will visit the New River Valley. To download an application click Mini-grant Application_2011, to learn more about the program read here…

Our Annual Bike Ride

Every year, for many years, our organization has hosted bike tours and recreational rides. Our largest event, The Bike Virginia Tour is in it’s 25th year.  Nearly 2,000 people take part in our event annually where we celebrate the joys of cycling with rides that explore beautiful, historic, and geologically significant regions. Visit www.bikevirginia.org to learn more.
