Awareness Week

Each year in September BWVA works with Drive Smart Virginia to sponsor the Virginia Cycling and Pedestrian Awareness Week. During Awareness Week we partner with organizations, companies, schools, colleges, and individuals across the state to spread a strong message that cycling and walking can be safe if we Share the Road.

In 2010 over 200 partners joined and held events, sent out news, ran media campaigns, and got out on bikes and their feet. We’re looking forward to 2011 being even bigger.

See the 2011 Partner List

If you become a partner this year your name will appear on our website, in our newsletters, and press releases.

You can help save lives. It’s Easy.

1. Become a partner by signing up through our co-sponsor website. No commitment required other than saying you’ll help spread the Share the Road messages. Take advantage of our simple tools to make it easy to spread the message by newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter.

2. Order free print materials if you can distribute or display them. Or get the pdf of the flyer, poster, table tent, and brochure.

3. Think about hosting a biking or walking activity in your community or workplace. Check out our list of simple activity ideas.

4. The week of September 11-18, 2011 get the message out.

This statewide campaign can make the difference between life and death. Please take time to include this activity in your planning for September.

Cycling and Pedestrian Awareness Week is funded in part by a safety grant from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Additional funding comes from the Kevin Flock Memorial Fund. Kevin was killed while riding in Amelia County, Virginia in May 2009. Kevin’s family and friends have contributed to a memorial fund in his name to support our Awareness Week campaign and other share the road activities.
